If You Want To Win As a Writer, Act Like You Belong Here
Commit To The Business of Being a Creator
Back when I first tried building an online business, I treated it like a hobby.
Wrote when I felt like it. Published inconsistently. Dabbled with offers.
Rather than working, I'd get sidetracked watching videos on X of dog owners getting their pets to say 'I love you'. (Ok, I still watch cute stuff like that! đ€Ł).
But guess what? Being distracted meant I got hobby-level results.
It took me yearsâand a ton of wasted morningsâto finally admit the truth:
If you want to earn from your content, you have to commit like a creator.
Even part-time creators need pro-level systems.
So What Does Treating Your Writing Like a Business Actually Look Like?
Here are 5 ways to make that shift:
1. Block the Time Like a CEO
Stop squeezing writing in âwhen you can.â Block just 30-45 minutes dailyâsame time, same place. This is your meeting with your future. Donât miss it.
2. Build Systems, Not Just Content
Use frameworks like SALT to cut guesswork and speed up your process. These arenât just tipsâtheyâre repeatable business assets.
3. Measure What Matters
Track your most important metrics weekly: writing days, published content, email subs, leads, conversions. What gets measured gets momentum.
4. Show Up Even When Itâs Ugly
Some days the writing will flow. Others itâll feel like wading through mud. Doesnât matter. Ship it. Youâre building consistency, not perfection.
5. Sell With Confidence
Creators donât just inspireâthey sell. Mention your offer often. Include clear CTAs. Your writing isnât just artâitâs your sales team in disguise.
The truth is, thereâs no secret strategy hiding behind the next YouTube tutorial.
What moves the needle? Showing up with purpose.
Using proven systems.
And treating your tiny writing window like it mattersâbecause it does.
