I Get My Best Ideas While Walking
How a simple stroll can help you beat writer's block and unlock creativity
Walking Clears the Mental Fog
Whenever I feel stuck, I call the dog, put on my walking boots and head out the door. Yes there’s some cliche’s incoming — but they’re cliches that work.
The moment my feet hit the lane near my house, something shifts. Away from the screen, my mind unwinds. Thoughts untangle and ideas surface.
Whether it’s a quiet track, a city street, or a woodland path, walking creates space to breathe — both literally and mentally. It’s in that space that creativity thrives.
Forget to Remember
Here’s the strange thing: the best ideas come when you stop trying so hard.
As I walk, I let go of the problem I’m wrestling with. I notice the rhythm of my steps, the sound of birdsong or distant passing traffic. And then — almost like magic — the idea arrives.
That’s when I pull out my iPhone, jot a quick note or record a voice memo, and keep moving.
Your Next Big Idea Might Be One Walk Away
So if you’re stuck on your next article, email, or piece of content — step outside. Stretch your legs. Let your mind wander.
You’ll get fresh air, a bit of exercise, and maybe the best idea you’ve had all week.
