How I Use Trance Music For Flow State Writing
Choose The Perfect Soundtrack To Increase Your Focus
There’s a moment in my writing sessions when everything drops away—the clock, the to-do list, the nagging doubts—and I’m just… in it.
Words appear like they were always meant to be there. Sentences spill out. Edits feel effortless.
That’s the flow state—and for me, music is the secret key.
More specifically? Trance music.
I’ve tested every genre over the years—jazz, ambient, lo-fi hip-hop.
But nothing flips my switch like a pulsing, progressive trance track.
One moment I’m fiddling with a headline. The next, I’m 800 words deep and wondering where the time went.
So what’s going on?
Music helps drown out distraction, regulate brainwaves, and nudge you into a creative rhythm. But not all tunes are created equal—and not everyone flows the same.
If you want to use music to boost your own writing sessions, here’s what works for me:
1. Choose Music Without Lyrics
Lyrics hijack your language circuits. That’s bad news when you’re writing. Go for instrumental tracks that blend into the background and keep you locked in.
2. Pick a Consistent BPM
Trance tracks often sit around 130–140 BPM—fast enough to energize, steady enough to focus. The consistency keeps your brain humming along in time.
Try this for starters:
🔊 Elias B – Polar Ice (Adam Nickey Remix)
Hypnotic, uplifting, and absolutely perfect for deep focus flow.
3. Use Playlists as Anchors
I have a few go-to playlists I only use when I’m writing. Over time, just pressing play signals to my brain: “We’re working now.”
4. Pair With a Timer
Music plus a 25-minute Pomodoro timer is a powerful combo. It creates a bubble of time and energy that’s hard to break.
So does this help you actually write better and stay consistent with your content business?
Yes it does. Flow isn’t some mystical force—it’s a state you can engineer. And the right soundtrack is one of the fastest ways to get there.
If your mornings feel like a fog, if the blank page keeps winning, maybe it’s time to hit play—then let the beat guide your words.
